Account of our most recent trip to Tiira Village, Busia, in Eastern Uganda from January 1st to January 27th 2019

This visit had a different focus than previous visits. We are finished expanding as we have reached the maximum number of 220 children that we can realistically manage. However, we will always be flexible enough to take on board a mother who seeks support and who we believe is in a genuinely desperate situation. On this visit we would be helping a selection of the children by teaching them Phonics. This would help the children who would range from 10… Read More »Account of our most recent trip to Tiira Village, Busia, in Eastern Uganda from January 1st to January 27th 2019

Details of Opportunity Knox 4th visit to Tiira Village in Eastern Uganda (May 18th to June 4th 2018)

Our plan for this visit was to speak to parents of all of the 60 families that we support, as a group, and distribute flyers in their own local language of various documents that had been interpreted for us previously at such group meetings. The reason for this was that everyone would now have a document in their own language of what we hoped to achieve and what their role and responsibility as well as their children’s would be. We… Read More »Details of Opportunity Knox 4th visit to Tiira Village in Eastern Uganda (May 18th to June 4th 2018)

Account of our trip to Tiira Village in Eastern Uganda from Sept. 29th to Oct. 10th 2017

On landing at Entebbe Airport we were picked up by Wilson Bulwa, a previous employee of World Vision who we had asked to take us in a hired car to our guesthouse in Busia Town, the nearest town to Tiira Village. We had engaged Wilson to translate what we had to say to the parents and children on the next day. We arrived at the guest house at midnight on Friday. With John Kennedy, we had drawn up a list… Read More »Account of our trip to Tiira Village in Eastern Uganda from Sept. 29th to Oct. 10th 2017

When opportunity knocks: The story so far

During November last (2015) Ursula and I went on a trip to Uganda as part of a trip organised by World Vision for those who were sponsoring children with World Vision. We were given an opportunity to visit a young man we have sponsored for around 10 years as well as to visit farms, schools, savings clubs and medical facilities which formed part of their Area Development Plans in two regions in Uganda. The poverty in the rural areas was… Read More »When opportunity knocks: The story so far
